The Clinton Public School District earns A-Rating, ranks second statewide
September 27, 2022
Despite two years’ worth of challenges and interruptions, the Clinton Public School District remains among the highest achieving school districts in the state of Mississippi.
The Mississippi State Department of Education officially approved the first accountability grades since the 2018-2019 school year on Thursday, September 29.
CPSD is rated as an A-District, the highest possible academic rating a Mississippi school district can attain.
With an overall score of 774, CPSD ranks as the second-highest performing district in the state of Mississippi and the highest performing district in Central Mississippi. This year’s score marks Clinton’s highest accountability score achieved under the new accountability system.
“Through a very challenging year, our results have proven to be affirmation of the hard work and dedication inside our classrooms and on our school campuses,” Clinton Public School District superintendent Dr. Andy Schoggin said.
“All members of our Clinton Arrow community—our parents, students and community partners—understand and support the mission of our district and have an important role in achieving excellence.”
“We are blessed to have wonderful teachers and administrators who helped our students set high expectations and accomplish their goals,” Clinton Public School District Board of Trustees president Dr. Matt Thomas said.
Dr. Schoggin said the efforts put forth to grow students and increase test scores mirrored the strides of the Clinton community as a whole during the past two years.
“Sustaining success, and even increasing from our last accountability score in 2019, is indicative of the sense of responsibility our instructional staff has for the students of our district,” Dr. Schoggin said.
This year’s accountability rankings have Clinton Park, Northside, Eastside and Clinton Junior High School rated A with Lovett as well as Sumner Hill and Clinton High School combined rated as a B.
An A-District celebration will be held at halftime during the Clinton Arrows Football game on Friday, September 30.
Mississippi’s schools and districts are graded on an A-F scale. The grades are part of the state’s accountability system, which helps teachers, school leaders, parents and communities know how well their local schools and districts are serving their students.
Calculations for the accountability grades rely heavily on the amount of progress elementary students make in English Language Arts, mathematics and science. Secondary students are also assessed in these areas, as well as in Algebra I, Biology, English II and U.S. History. Other factors such as graduation rates, English Learner progress and participation in Advanced Placement and dual enrollment courses are considered in the state’s accountability model.
