Clinton Public School District Superintendent Dr. Tim Martin announces retirement
Superintendent Tim Martin announced his plans for retirement at the end of the 2020-2021 school year to take a position as Assistant Executive Director for the Mississippi School Boards Association.
Dr. Martin has worked in the Clinton Public School District as an administrator for 22 years and will retire with 32 years total in education.
“In my time with the Clinton Public School District,” Dr. Martin said, “I have worked with some of the finest professionals who are dedicated and passionate about teaching and learning. This year, I have been amazed at what our teachers and administrators have accomplished during the biggest crisis of our lifetime, the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Martin continued, “I am thankful to the Lord for His wisdom and guidance over my years of service. I want to thank board members, past and present. It has truly been a wonderful time. I am appreciative of the support I have received over the last four years as superintendent and 13 years as assistant superintendent. I want to thank my wife and family for always being my rock and strength. I will truly miss the relationships and camaraderie that I have forged. I am a Clinton Arrow and always will be.”
“Dr. Martin has played an integral role in my career in education,” said Mr. Anthony Goins, assistant superintendent for CPSD. “He gave me an opportunity when he hired me as an assistant principal at Clinton Junior High School 21 years ago. During my time in the Clinton Public School District, he taught me so much about how to be a better leader by continuing to stress the importance of making data driven decisions in all aspects.”
Goins added, “I have the utmost respect for him as an educator and as a person. The Clinton Public School District has been truly fortunate to have him working with our students, teachers, administrators and staff. He is well respected throughout the state and will continue to be known as one of the great educational leaders in Clinton.”
Clinton Public School District’s Board of Trustees president Dr. Felicia Gavin said, “Dr. Martin has been the calm during the storm. This year has certainly been an unprecedented year as we have navigated through many firsts. Although we will miss Dr. Martin and his leadership, we congratulate him on his retirement, and we thank him for his commitment in ensuring that the Clinton Public School District maintained its standard of excellence.”
Martin said, “I have always been told to leave a place better than you found it, and I believe I have done that. In my four years as superintendent, some of the areas I am passionate about have come to fruition, such as the new CTE additions, upgrades to the CJHS and Lovett campuses, and classroom additions to both Clinton Park and Northside. I have seen this district achieve so much in my time here, and I know it will continue to do so because around here, Excellence is the Only Option.”
Martin will serve in his role as superintendent through June 30, 2021.
