Clinton Theater students compete in Tennessee Williams Festival
Students with Clinton High School’s Theatre Program competed in the 28th Annual Mississippi Delta Tennessee Williams Festival held October 15-17.
The event, held virtually this year, required students to push their creative boundaries in order to produce entertaining renditions of Williams’ work due to the competition being held virtually.
Winning first place in the Scenes Competition were Cade Campbell, Tabitha Hewitt, Deshawn Leonard and Venessa Sharp for their performance of “The Glass Menagerie.”
Jeremiah McDonald placed first in the Stella Calling Competition, a contest where students sparked their imagination as they leaned into the specifics of recreating the iconic scene from “A Streetcar Named Desire.”
Kylie Price and Gail Sistrunk participated in Splash Scenes where these students were given a two-minute scene and were tasked with performing this scene with various actors they had never met before.
Sistrunk won the Judges Award for Splash Scenes.
Clinton’s Theatre teacher Sarah Hankins won Outstanding Teacher at the event.
The festival was hosted by Coahoma Community College with support from the Mississippi Arts Commission, the Mississippi Humanities Council and the Coahoma County Tourism Commission.
