CHS Culinary students win state's "Taste of the Fair" recipe contest

Ice Cream Winners Students enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at Clinton High School’s Career and Technical Education Center recently entered the “Taste of the Fair” recipe competition put on by The Dairy Alliance, a nonprofit funded by the dairy farm families of the Southeast.

Junior Akierah Walker and Senior Logan Bell won the Mississippi State Prize for their ice cream recipes.

Chicken and Waffle Cone Ice Cream created by Walker and Caramel Apple Ice Cream created by Bell placed the duo at the top of Mississippi’s entries.

Culinary Arts instructor Chef Catherine Bruce said the competition lined up perfectly with what the students were learning.

“We have been studying dairy for the past few weeks,” Chef Bruce said, “and this project allowed the students to use the knowledge they had learned to create these delicious ice cream flavors.”

Chef Bruce said the entire class participated in Walker’s and Bell’s recipe development.

“I am so proud of the hard work and creative energy the students put into this competition,” Chef Bruce said. “Not only did their ice cream creations look amazing, but they tasted delicious.”

The two winning recipes will be featured in the “The Dairy Alliance Taste of the Fair” Recipe Booklet set to be released in 2021.
