CLINTON — There are four National Merit Finalists in the Clinton High School class of 2020.
“The process of selecting National Merit students is a very rigorous one, and only the top students nationwide are chosen,” said Brett Robinson, principal.
Aaron Graves, Isaac Martinolich, Victor Yen and Kevin Zhang are National Merit Finalists. More than 1.6 million students enter the program nationwide; there are roughly 16,000 semifinalists; and about 7,600 are chosen as scholarship recipients.
National Merit semifinalists are announced in September, based on PSAT scores from the test administered in October of the previous school year. Semifinalists usually receive scholarships, and most also receive scholarships if they attend in-state colleges and universities.
Letters announcing Finalists are sent to school counselors and to students’ homes at the end of January. To advance to the finalist level, semifinalists must present a record of high academic performance throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by their high school principal, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm their PSAT performance.
“We are very proud of these students,” Robinson said. “This designation speaks well of them and their families, and the entire Clinton community.”
