CLINTON — There are hundreds of children in Clinton’s public schools who come to school with a positive attitude, encourage others and work hard.
The Rising Arrow student award honors students who are quietly working to make the world a better place.
“We began this award to recognize students who demonstrate integrity and good character,” said Dr. Tim Martin, superintendent of schools. “They help others in need, both at school and in their community. They are kind to others. They do the right thing without being asked, only because it’s the right thing to do. The Rising Arrow award is a way to say thank you for being good people, and not just good students.”
The Rising Arrow award is given to one student per school per nine weeks period. Teachers and staff nominate students who show integrity, good character and who are helping and encouraging others around them. Winners are recognized at a school board meeting, and receive gifts from Chick-fil-A.
First nine-weeks winners include:
- Cheyenne Holiday, Clinton Park Elementary
Cheyenne is an outstanding student. She is always kind to others. She goes out of her way to cheer someone up if they are sad or not feeling well. She is willing to help any peer who needs a hand. Cheyenne is always smiling and looks for people to give compliments throughout the day. She is a very caring person and a thoughtful friend to all students and faculty. When Cheyenne finishes her work, she is always looking for ways to help the other students who have not completed theirs. She has a kind heart and always knows how to make others feel special.
- Cruz Rodgers, Northside Elementary School
Cruz is one of those miracle cases that proves, along with intense hard work, the effectiveness of dyslexia therapy. Cruz's progress amazes me every day. Cruz has already exceeded our expectations and continues to persevere on a daily basis to grow as a reader. He has grown five grade levels in reading in little more than a year, and his fluency has improved almost 100 words per minute. Even though he has challenges that affect his reading, Cruz never gives less than 100%. He is also very considerate of others. He is often the first to clap or cheer for a classmate who does something correct, or often cheers on those who might need a little extra encouragement.
- Tycerie Martin, Eastside Elementary School
Tycerie is a wonderful student who works hard to achieve excellence. She goes above and beyond in the classroom. We love how she sees needs and is intentional to address them.
- Zackary Robinson, Lovett Elementary School
Zack is an amazing young man who strives each day to do his best in all of his classes. He is very smart and loves to read! Not only is Zack responsible, but he seeks out every opportunity he can to learn new information. In addition to high academics, Zach is also involved in extracurricular activities such as Boy Scouts. That transfers to the classroom where he exhibits leadership qualities and is the first to always lend a helping hand. This is who he is every single day, but even more notable, he recently lost his mom and you would think that would have made him not want to learn or not try hard in school sometimes. But the opposite is true. He has overcome adversity this school year with the death of his mom, and he has still remained strong. He still greets us each day with a smile and always has an interesting fact or story. He is truly one amazing kid!
- Ashley Duke, Clinton Junior High School
Ashley Duke is an amazing leader at CJHS. She exemplifies our PBIS motto - Achieving, Ready, Respectful, Organized, Willing to learn, and Successful student. Ashley is an example to all students. She is an upstanding, positive student. Ashley is an honor roll student involved in many activities including National Honor Society, band and Ambassadors. Ashley is an example to all students at CJHS. We are very proud and honored that she is one of our students.
- Zoie Chambers, Sumner Hill Junior High School
Zoie appears to be a natural leader. We have seen her model this trait in Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a huddle leader. Zoie is constantly looking for ways to inspire and encourage her peers. She does this in multiple ways. Zoie is involved in a couple of extracurricular activities (volleyball and track) as well as several clubs (FCA, Boss Challenge, Biology Club). I can see that she wants something great for herself and her classmates by the involvement and support she shows and the action she takes. Zoie seems to be growing academically, socially, athletically, and spiritually; and doing it all while transitioning into high school as a young teenager. We believe Zoie wants what is best for herself, but wants to get there by doing what is best for others. She has a desire and a heart for her community and campus. I have been very impressed by the strong character traits she has shown during her short time here at Sumner Hill. Zoie has proven to be a positive role model for her classmates, and positive example of how students can thrive in different areas in ninth grade.
- Riley Laird, Clinton High School
Riley has been a student leader in our sports livestreaming efforts. The initiative and responsibility she has shown are second to none. She's merged her deep understanding of athletics of her knowledge of broadcasting technology, positioning herself for significant professional opportunities in her future.
