CHS students attend STEM event
Twenty-three AP science students participated in the Big STEM Event at Belhaven University on Monday, Nov. 4.
Students from various schools divided into teams of 6-8 people each to compete in the STEM Challenge, which used math and science skills to solve problems and construct a tower with limited supplies. CHS teams placed second and third in the competition. Lunch was served followed by a keynote speaker.
Afternoon highlights included lab experiments where biology students performed an electrocardiogram and chemistry students extracted caffeine from chocolate.
Teachers sponsoring the trip included Renee Smith and Jo Purvis along with student teacher Connor Jordan.
