CLINTON — Eastside Elementary teacher Lisa Saucier is the recipient of the 2019 Frances A. Karnes Award for Excellence in Gifted Education.
“It is such an honor to be recognized for my work,” Saucier said. “I love teaching gifted kids and I’m so thankful for the opportunity. When I was a student I remember what a difference my gifted classes made to me and my education. Hopefully I can make that kind of difference with the students I teach.”
The award is given annually by the Mississippi Association for Gifted Children. Recipients are educators, parents, or groups that make significant contributions toward the improvement of educational programs or events for gifted students.
Saucier is an ACCENT teacher at Eastside, the Clinton Public School District's fourth- and fifth-grade school.
“One of the key reasons Clinton’s public schools are so successful is our amazing faculty,” said Dr. Tim Martin, superintendent of schools. “Teachers like Mrs. Saucier truly have a heart for teaching and learning.”
At the recent MAGC conference, three Clinton students also received scholarships to attend summer camps for gifted children. Scholarship recipients include Toni Bell, Malachi Ham and Parker Taylor.
