CLINTON — Tempress Holly-Lanyuy is passionate about graphic design.
“I love it when my students love what I’m teaching,” she said. “I love when they’re passionate about it too. I love when students come back after they’ve graduated and tell me my class made a big difference in their lives, that they learned something in my class.
“That happens a lot.”
Lanyuy and her fellow teachers are the reason CPSD was ranked the No. 1 District with the Best Teachers in Mississippi by the ranking Website Niche.com. More than half of CPSD’s teachers have advanced degrees, and many also hold National Board Certification.
“We have highly qualified teachers at every grade level, in every subject, in every school,” said Dr. Tim Martin, superintendent of schools. “Great teachers make all the difference, and every day they’re impacting the lives of children in our community.”
Niche.com compiles its ratings from sources including the Mississippi Department of Education, the U.S. Census, community surveys and other sources. Each year it rates K-12 schools and districts as well as colleges and universities.
In addition to rating CPSD as No. 1 in teacher quality, it’s rated the No. 2 Best Place to Teach in Mississippi, the No. 4 overall Best School District in Mississippi and the No. 1 District in the Jackson Metro Area. Niche.com also rates CPSD among the top districts statewide in safety, diversity and athletics.
